Learning to be Professional

The University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy identifies ‘professional training and the development of professional capability through the undergraduate curriculum’ as both a strength of the Surrey student experience and a focus for continued development. During 2009-2010 SCEPTrE will support a programme of research and development work aimed at understanding, enhancing and innovating this aspect of our curriculum through:

  • Fellowship scheme – including Fellowships for people in other institutions
  • Curriculum Innovation Awards
  • Programme of seminars on ‘Learning to be professional through a higher education’
  • E-Book ‘Learning to be professional through a higher education’
  • Regular drop-in sessions to support sharing practice within the community of Professional Training practitioners
  • Programme of research aimed at understanding how our curriculum designs support the development of professional capability

We have given support to expanding Career Development Learning through our collaborations with the Careers Service, helped create and support a network of professional interest (Work Integrated Learning Network) and worked in partnership with other institutions and organisations.

In 2009 we hosted a national conference ‘Learning to be Professional through a Life-wide Curriculum
